I messed around a while trying to figure out which orientation the shift drum belongs in to allow all the gears to click in. After replacing those seals I wanted to make sure the shift forks looked alright, so I removed them inspected and proceeded to start turning the shift drum in hopes for an understanding of how it works, this is where it all went wrong. I tore it down removing the minimum not removing the transmission main shaft or countershaft transmission gear sets.Īfter inspecting I determined no bearings needed replacing and just ended up replacing countershaft seal and crank seals, as well as the shift shaft. Note, the bike shifted flawlessly before despite having a hole tapped into the shift lever because the splines at the end were stripped. The crank cavity was full of coolant when I removed the cylinder and so I decided to take on a bottom end inspection and replacement were needed. I rode the bike about 15 minute before coolant absolutely ejected out of the overflow immediately shutting it down. I did so and after reinstalling the cylinder I dumbly over torqued the head bolts in a rush without a torque wrench crushing the inner head gasket or o-ring. I went to remove the cylinder and clean/inspect the power valve after trying to solve another issues I posted on another thread. First and foremost, I'm A newbie when it comes to working on dirt bikes.
